Why would we want to go back there, you might well ask!

Well, while at home a great many of us were eating Findus Crispy Pancakes and oven chips, the UK food scene was really hotting up with shiny new chefs hitting the headlines with fusion food and international inspiration. Out and about sophisticated Italian dining could be found at the River Café or the more affordable Carluccio’s; on the telly Ken Hom’s Travels with a Hot Wok featured rather more sundried tomatoes than could be expected for a Chinese cookery show, and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was inviting us to go foraging in the wild.
